All new houses in Victoria must include a greater range of energy efficiency and water saving features, improving occupant comfort and reducing the cost of energy bills.

All new homes must comply with the 5 star energy rating standard

From 1 July 2005 compliance requires:

5 Star energy rating for building fabric PLUS water conservation measures AND a rain water tank OR solar hot water system

For houses with a timber floor construction or for mudbrick homes, until 30 April 2007, there are three options to comply:

5 Star energy rating for building provided by an accredited House Energy Rater

Chateaux Homes achieves 5 star energy rating with good design

Bulk insulation and reflective foil in walls and ceilings
House orientation and window size
Weather sealed aluminium improved windows
High performance glazing
Draught seals to doors

5 star energy rating homes look the same and are more comfortable

5 Star homes are five degrees warmer in winter and 10 degrees cooler in summer
Water savings of up to 60,000 litres per year or 20% for the average home
Home energy bills are reduced by an average $200 per year
Reduced costs for heating and cooling units
